Reading Town Hall Wedding Photographer, Intimate & Micro Weddings in Berkshire.
A beautiful setting for registry ceremonies in Berkshire.
As a Reading Town Hall wedding photographer, I often photograph intimate registry ceremonies here. Some of the most meaningful weddings I photograph are just with a handful of close family and friends in a relaxed atmosphere. These couples simply want to celebrate their marriage in a way that feels private & personal.
Over the years I’ve photographed several micro weddings and registry ceremonies at Reading Town Hall and every one has had its own unique story. Guests travelling from abroad, quiet emotional moments during the ceremony & maybe some distant family members watching from abroad via a video link.
Often they conclude with confetti celebrations outside the historic entrance or in nearby Forbury gardens..
These smaller weddings often feel wonderfully relaxed and they photograph beautifully.
Thank you so much for taking the photos of our special day yesterday. We’ve had a look at the preview gallery, and honestly they have beautifully captured us as a couple and our loved ones. We can’t wait for the final album!!
Thank you so much again – you completely put us at ease and made it such a lovely personal experience. ❤️
Why Reading Town Hall is Perfect for Micro Weddings.
Reading Town Hall is one of Berkshire’s most popular registry venues, and it’s easy to see why.
The building itself is a stunning example of Victorian architecture built in warm red stone with beautiful details both inside and out. Also housing a museum & the Pantry cafe which are interesting & relaxed spaces for guests to spend time in whilst they are waiting for your ceremony.
The ceremony room is elegantly decorated in a neutral colour scheme which will compliment every wedding theme. Spacious but intimate this room seats 47 people & is perfect for;
-
civil partnerships
-
elopements
-
micro weddings
-
couples travelling internationally to marry in the UK
Because everything is so close together, it’s also incredibly easy to move from ceremony to portraits in Reading without losing much time.
Confetti Moments Outside the Town Hall.
One of my favourite parts of weddings here is the confetti moment outside the main entrance.
The stone columns and grand doorway create a fantastic backdrop. Although there isn’t alot of room for a long confetti walk. To do this or if you have closer to 30 guests I would recommend the short walk to nearby Forbury gardens where there is plenty of space !
Confetti is always such a joyful moment at a wedding, it brings everyone together & you are guaranteed a candid unguarded set of photos! Your guests gathered close together, the anticipation of it, laughter everywhere, and it is a classically brilliant way to start the post ceremony celebrations.
Here are a few moments from recent micro weddings I’ve photographed at Reading Town Hall.
Portrait locations are just minutes away.
Another huge advantage of a wedding at Reading Town Hall is how many beautiful portrait locations are within walking distance.
For couples planning a micro wedding or registry ceremony, this means you can create a really varied set of portraits in a short amount of time.
Forbury Gardens.
Just a few minutes’ walk from the Town Hall, Forbury Gardens is one of the best places in Reading for relaxed wedding portraits.
The gardens offer:
-
beautiful trees and seasonal colour
-
elegant pathways
-
open lawns for natural portraits
-
views towards the historic Abbey ruins
It’s particularly lovely in spring and summer when the gardens are full of flowers. For example the magnolia tree in early spring (March/April) along with the daffodils & other spring bulbs & the wisteria by the coffee shop in May. The rose gardens by the water fountain are normally in full bloom from June onwards.
Reading Abbey Ruins.
Right next to the gardens are the dramatic Abbey ruins.
These ancient stone walls create an incredible backdrop for portraits and give wedding photos a timeless, historic feel.
For couples who love architecture or history, it’s a really special place to capture a few quiet moments together.
The Abbey gateway works well for group photos or a couple portrait, a handy location to hide from the rain too !
A Hidden Riverside Photo Spot.
One of my favourite little locations in Reading is along the river near Caversham Bridge.
It’s only a short walk from the Town Hall and offers beautiful views across the Thames.
Top tip:
If you walk slightly along the riverside path you’ll find a spot where the bridge frames the background perfectly. It’s especially lovely in soft evening light and makes a fantastic location for a relaxed portrait away from the busy town centre.

The Beauty of Smaller Weddings.
What I love most about photographing micro weddings is how personal they feel. I usually memorise the first names of everyone involved & call them by name for photos which really helps to relax everyone.
Without a big timeline or packed schedule, couples can simply enjoy the moment. There’s time to talk to guests, time for relaxed portraits, and often time for a quiet walk through the gardens together.
These weddings might be on a smaller scale, but they are every bit as meaningful as a large celebration.
Micro Wedding Photography Coverage.
For couples planning a ceremony at Reading Town Hall as a Reading Town Hall Wedding Photographer I offer shorter photography coverage designed specifically for registry weddings and intimate celebrations.
Two hours coverage can usually include:
-
ceremony coverage
-
confetti outside the Town Hall
-
relaxed couple portraits around Reading
-
a few family photographs
-
candid moments with guests
Even within a short timeframe, it’s possible to create a beautiful, storytelling wedding day gallery.
