Jaime & Matt’s Twilight Wedding at The Post Barn.

A love story 18 years in the making.
Some love stories don’t need rushing… and Jaime & Matt’s twilight wedding at The Post Barn was relaxed, meaningful, & personal. As a Post Barn wedding photographer, days like this are everything I love about photographing weddings here natural moments, beautiful light, and a space that feels effortlessly special.
Jaime & Matt’s story began 18 years ago in a village pub, Matt was behind the bar, Jaime was in the kitchen and somewhere between shifts, conversations and everyday life, something quietly wonderful started.
Fast forward nearly two decades…
They’ve raised three beautiful daughters, built a home together, travelled, grown, navigated life’s ups and downs and through it all, they’ve simply grown up together.
A surprise proposal during a birthday trip to Copenhagen (planned entirely by Jaime herself, unknowingly!) ended in tears, laughter, and one very emotional phone call to their girls.
Jaime actually found The Post Barn before Matt had even seen it.
A visit with her sister was all it took to confirm that this was the venue for them, Jaime knew instantly.
With its huge glass windows, welcoming in soft natural light (even in winter), and a stunning mezzanine overlooking the ceremony space, it creates this beautiful balance between modern elegance and warm, intimate atmosphere.
Which also creates a beautiful, bright ceremony space even on darker winter days something couples often don’t expect when planning a February wedding.
For Jaime & Matt, it was perfect, especially for their twilight winter wedding.
The vision?
A soft silver palette, candlelight, and fairy lights creating the perfect backdrop for their family orientated winter party.
Styling the barn.
Jaime’s approach to styling for her winter wedding was all about comfort, personality, and subtle winter elegance. Family & friends helped to pull this theme together with their DIY approach.
-
Bridesmaids and flower girls chose their own dresses in shades of silver.
-
The overall look felt relaxed, natural and completely unforced.
-
Candles and twinkling fairy lights became the real focal point of the day.
And her dress…
A Vinted find (which I absolutely love) with delicate lace accents & a beautiful low back revealing her tattoo, with the most incredible long train.
A ceremony filled with emotion (and a little shaking).
Their twilight ceremony was one of those where you could feel the love between them & for them. Jaime admits she “shook like a leaf” but loved every second.
One of the most special personal touches was hearing their children’s voices in a pre-recorded message. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. I used some of this precious recording in their highlight film.
And then… that moment.
After 18 years together, standing in front of everyone they love, finally saying “I do.” As Jaime said “Finally ! I am the bride”
Followed by one of my favourite moments of the entire day, the two of them dancing back down the aisle.
A twilight wedding (and chasing the last of the light).
Twilight weddings always bring a slightly different energy.
The timeline is tighter.
The light disappears quickly.
Everything moves faster.
But they also create something really special, a kind of intimacy and atmosphere that you just don’t get in the middle of a summer afternoon.
Jaime & Matt fully embraced it.
We worked quickly on their photography & made the most of the last light, and still managed to capture everything they wanted (and a little extra too).
Then as the evening settled in, the barn came alive warm, glowing, full of laughter, music and movement.
Planning a twilight wedding? Here’s my advice;
If you’re considering a twilight wedding at The Post Barn or elswhere, the important thing to keep in mind is how quickly the light fades, especially in winter.
- Embrace candlelight, fairylights and atmospheric low light as it photographs beautifully.
- Prioritise your lighting: Since most of the event will take place in the dark, invest heavily in atmospheric lighting such as fairy lights, candles, lanterns, and festoon lighting to create a magical mood.
- Guest comfort: Even in summer, evenings can become cool. Provide blankets, shawls, or ensure indoor or outdoor heating is available for guests.
- Try to start your ceremony as early as possible.
- Build a little flexibility into your timeline for portraits before the light fades or plan a location inside your venue where your photographer can use additional light such as flash.
- Adjust catering: Replace a traditional sit-down wedding breakfast with a late-night feast, such as a hog roast, buffet, or a street food or festival food catering style to fit the relaxed, party-focused vibe. Bonus of a twilight wedding is you will only have to feed eveyone once !
- Trust your photographer to guide the timing.
- And most importantly… remember to soak it all in.
Because as Jaime said so perfectly, it really does go far too quickly.

“A moment I thought might never come”
When I asked Jaime about her favourite part of the day, her answer stayed with me:
“The end of the ceremony, dancing back down the aisle… I had never felt so happy. A moment I thought might never come.”
And I think that says everything.
A few words from Matt & Jaime.
“We are over the moon with our wedding photos. I find myself losing time flicking through them again and again.”
“Emma is an exceptional photographer… she made everything feel easy and natural, never forced.”
“With a twilight wedding and limited daylight, she still captured everything we asked for and more.”
“The whole process from zoom calls to the WhatsApp group made everything feel organised and relaxed.”
If you’re planning your own twilight wedding at The Post Barn and looking for a Post Barn wedding photographer with a relaxed & natural style, I’d love to hear from you.
