Photographing weddings at The Retreat, Elcot Park.
My approach to photographing weddings at The Retreat is calm, unobtrusive and always tailored to the couple that I am working with.
Arriving onsite typically 3 hours before the ceremony time I’ll check in with the team at The Retreat before seeking out the couple. Most of the wedding day is about quietly observing, allowing moments to unfold naturally.Looking out for the small interactions between family and friends that often mean the most when looking back on the photographs in years to come.
When gentle guidance is needed, particularly during group photos or couple portraits, I keep things relaxed, friendly and efficient so you can get back to enjoying your day as quickly as possible.
In the run up to the wedding day I will have prepared my own ‘photography plan for the day’ so there will be no confusion or awkwardness about what’s happening next ! The order of the day flows naturally & seamlessly with the venue team & I checking in with each other in the background to ensure everything happens as & when it should.
The Retreat offers lovely options in all weather, and I’m completely comfortable adapting to changing light, timelines or plans without creating stress.

Getting ready at The Retreat, Elcot Park, The residences & rooms.
One of the real strengths of The Retreat is the option to get ready on site, particularly within the residences. These spaces are calm, spacious and beautifully designed. Elegantly decorated & tucked away from the main hotel this makes them ideal for relaxed morning photography.
From a photography point of view:
-
The natural window light works beautifully for prep portraits.
-
There’s space for everyone to move without feeling crowded.
-
Details such as dresses, florals and personal touches photograph naturally without the need for complicated staging.
-
The atmosphere tends to feel calm and unrushed, which sets the tone for the rest of the day.
If you would prefer to be closer to the hub of excited prep for your wedding day there are some beautiful suites located within the main hotel building. The Sutton suite is one of my photogenic favourites !
Getting ready on site at The Retreat allows the morning to unfold naturally, without travel or rushing, which makes a real difference to how relaxed the prep photography feels.
Ceremony photography in The Orangery.
The Orangery is a stunning space for ceremonies at The Retreat. Light-filled and elegant, it feels open and connected to the surroundings while still being intimate. The visible far reaching views into the grounds & the North Wessex downs can be a naturally beautiful backdrop to your ceremony.
A few gentle considerations that work beautifully here:
-
The natural light is soft and flattering throughout the day.
-
Keeping décor simple allows the space (and the moment) to breathe, the classic green & white theme is a perfect neutral base for any coloour scheme.
-
A landscape layout for your ceremony gives guests a clear view without feeling too formal.
- The aisle is short, so plan your entrance timings carefully if you are thinking of a large wedding party.
I photograph ceremonies in the Orangery unobtrusively & mostly from the back of the room, focusing on expressions, reactions and atmosphere. I can move quietly to the sides when needed & look for the way hands are held, the emotion on faces, and the quiet moments that often go unseen.
My favourite photography locations at The Retreat, Elcot Park.
The hotel & grounds at The Retreat offer a lovely variety of backdrops without needing to walk far or step away from your guests for long.
Some of my favourite areas for natural & fun portraits include:
- The library room for groomsmen prep.
-
The walled garden where seasonal wild flowers can be found.
-
The poolside for summertime reflections & pink skies.
-
Quiet corners for pockets of golden light that allow you a moment together for natural togetherness.

Natural, timeless wedding photography edits.
My editing style is natural and true to life & colour. Skin tones are kept realistic, colours are vibrant and consistent, and nothing is heavily trend-led.
My aim is simple: photographs that still feel right years from now, images that bring you back to how your wedding day felt, not just how it (accurately) looked.

Getting married at The Retreat, Elcot Park?

We cannot recommend Emma highly enough. First of all, she took our vision for what we wanted from our photographs and made them a reality. Her style and composition left us with us some truly memorable moments frozen in time. From the moment we met her, everything was managed in a professional manner, and she really took the time to understand our needs. Not only this, she also came up with some great recommendations for other suppliers, and we ended up using both a videographer and florist recommended by Emma. All our guests commented on how approachable she was, and how she got all the pictures taken without interrupting proceedings at all. We are extremely grateful to Emma for all that she did for us.
